Wau school goes hi-tech despite woes
The Grace Memorial Secondary School in Wau yesterday commissioned its VSat broadband Internet system.Despite having problems with facilities, 14 committed staff with the new administration aim to prove that they can improve their students learning capabilities amidst a lack of dormitories, library, science laboratories, staff housing and water. The school adopted the broadband system – the first for Grades 11 and 12 in Morobe – with the support of local MP Sam Basil.

“Students must have access to the facility when doing research, and also to learn what is happening around the world, Mr Basil said.“Such educational services should have been made available 15 years ago by the government to develop the country’s human resources capacity.”Mr Basil added that as a result, “PNG has to ‘catch-up’ to be abreast of the technological developments worldwide”.Meanwhile, Bulolo Technical School and Baiune High School will commission their facilities next Monday.

*** Internet is a vital tool for all learning institutions in Papua New Guinea. It would help the students immensely in their studies. I hope more and more schools will follow suit after Grace Memorial Secondary School. Congratulations!
