US announces study programme

The United States Embassy has announced the annual competition for the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Programme for 2010-11. Applications are welcomed from citizens of Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu. Successful candidates receive a year of graduate-level non-degree academic coursework and practical professional development activities.

The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Programme provides a year of professional enrichment in the United States for experienced professionals from designated countries throughout the world. Fellows are selected based on their potential for leadership and their commitment to public service in either the public or private sector. Each year about 160 fellows, funded by the bureau of educational and cultural affairs of the US department of state, engage in non-degree study and related professional experiences at selected American universities.
Started in 1978, the programme now has a network of over 3,700 alumni in 156 countries around the world working to improve their communities and the lives of those in need. Fellows are placed at one of 15 American universities chosen for excellence in relevant fields and for the resources and support they offer Humphrey fellows. The host campus selection process is open to all universities.

This year’s competition is in the fields of educational administration, planning and policy; public health policy and management; and agricultural development/agricultural economics and natural resources, environmental policy and climate change.

More information on the programme can be found at http://www.humphreyfellowship.org/ Interested individuals must have an undergraduate degree and a minimum of six years of substantial professional experience.
