Consider teachers' pleas
Up housing allowance
THE plea to increase housing allowances by teachers in the Mamose region is commendable (Post-Courier, March 24). The current K6 housing allowance included in the teachers’ salaries for almost three decades is not sufficient to cater for the teachers who are still living under a kunai grass roof. After teaching and living under a kunai grass roof for almost six years myself, I felt that the Government had turned a blind eye on those of us who were teaching and living in some of the remote parts of the country. I suggest that teachers who live under a kunai grass roof should have their housing allowances increased. It would be a noble act for the Government to commend the hardworking teachers who are living in those humiliating conditions. Perhaps, the PNG Teachers Association Mamose regional secretary Arnold Kondil could talk to his counterparts in other parts of the country so that all the members stand together to take any legitimate approach to the government.
