Southeast Michigan Synod (ELCA) Bishop dies
It is with deep regret that we announce Bishop John H. K. Schreiber died on Saturday, August 16th.
Please keep his family -- wife Rev. Colleen Kamke, children Paul and Claire, mother Rose and sister Lois -- in your prayers. Please keep the Southeast Michigan Synod in your prayers as well.
Rest eternal grant John, O Lord,and may perpetual light shine on him.
The service of Christian burial for
Bishop John Schreiber will be held on
Thursday, August 21 at 10:30 a.m.
at St. Blase Roman Catholic Church located at
12151 Fifteen Mile Rd., Sterling Heights, MI 48312.
The body will lie in state from 9:30 a.m.
until the time of the service.
Visitation will take place at the Synod office on:
Tuesday, August 19 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Wednesday, August 20 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
All rostered leaders should be vested and ready to process by 10:00 a.m. on Thursday morning. The color of the day is white.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials to the "Building Here, Building There" campaign of the Southeast Michigan Synod, the ministries of the Southeast Michigan Synod, or St. Thomas Lutheran Church, where Rev. Colleen Kamke, the Bishop’s wife, serves as pastor

When: Nov. 19, on the sixth ballot, 199-171 over Dennis Kenny, director of pastoral care, Pacific Presbyterian Medical Center, San Francisco.Bio: Assistant to the bishop, Southeast Michigan Synod. Pastor of Olivet Evangelical Lutheran Church, Detroit. Graduate of Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, and Trinity Lutheran Seminary, Columbus, Ohio. Replaces: Robert Rimbo, who resigned Aug. 31 and is now serving as pastor of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, New York.
