Steps to transform Papua New Guinea

To transform our country, we must first transform our people. For years our people, resources and potential of PNG have been ignored by governments. We must create meaningful employment opportunities, optimise resource benefits and develop infrastructures that will result in a stronger, more vibrant economy.

PNG can be transformed if we put our efforts together rather than pointing fingers at each other

This is achievable if PNG:

* Maintains in a sustainable way key infrastructures to facilitate economic development opportunities across PNG;

* Facilitate national development of the whole country by encouraging economic development within each provinces;

* Aggressively market PNG globally in an effort to ensure the country’s future viability;

* Convene a team of officials in Government and industry to develop a strategy to keep PNG viable and in competition with other countries with a comparative advantage to ours;

* Establish and mandate a special Government agency to oversee the development and growth opportunities in our region and globally; and

* Fully develop our agricultural, fisheries, forest, tourism potential and other opportunities existing to fully involve our people.

*** From outside looking in, I can see a great difference on these issues Mr. Renagi had mentioned. If we emphasize the above points, I think we will slowly but surely and prayerfully still work it through so that hopefully PNG will change rapidly in the years ahead for the betterment our our children.
