Papua New Guinea has the potential...

We don't need anybody to dictate to us, I think we have got the potential to run our own affairs. It doesn't hurt to learn from others but on the other hand, we can't adopt other people's cultures, business practises, etc...

Papua New Guinea is culturally diverse and we have closely knit communities. Therefore, we can't adopt other people's ideologies because it won't work well for us; maybe for some well-to-do but may not work for the grassroots. However; We got to incorporate what is learnt from others to suit our own ways and needs.

From my perspective, I see two important factors missing in Papua New Guinea;

1. We need 'political will': When I refer to 'political will', I mean to express, and hopefully public, commitment from our leaders and every citizen to a sustained anti-corruption strategy to combat corruption at all levels.

2. A resonant and vibrant leadership at the helm to lead our nation at all levels of government.

We have the resources and the rich cultural heritage to make the world dance to our music if we consider the above two factors. I have lived in the US long enough to think that there is no other place like Papua New Guinea because we have the potential, the know-hows, and the resources to remedy our current situations to be a better nation. I still have more hope and confident that one day Papua New Guinea will come out of these doldrums.

I am glad that the elite of Papua New Guinea and PNG's friends far and wide are talking now about Papua New Guinea's affairs and how it should solve it's own problems . Let's get this message to our folks in the villages to keep hope and not to loose hope.
