HIV/AIDS is a MAJOR CONCERN in PNG

We need a sexual-attitude change to stop dreaded AIDS

IT is scary when I read each day about the alarming rate of the killer disease HIV/AIDS that has already eaten into the fabric of our society and causes great concern for us as a nation.
I’m impressed with all levels of government, the National Aids Council, donor agencies, non-government organisations, women’s groups, churches and individuals who are working tirelessly around the clock to minimise the spread of HIV/ AIDS using the limited resources they have.
But the most important thing is we need to change our attitude towards sex. We don’t need money and resources to change our attitudes.
It is from within a person that he/she can change their attitude and behaviour for the better. We don’t need people to coach us on this; it is a decision that we make to take a U-turn away from sex — end of story.
If we can change our attitude and say no to sex and control our sexual behaviours, we wouldn’t worry too much about HIV/AIDS because everyone would be responsible for his/her sexual behaviour.
If we can start now by changing our attitude in putting garbage and spitting buai in the bins, we can change our attitude towards our sexual behaviours too.
We don’t need Makoma, condoms, money, or excessive resources to combat this disease — we only need an attitude change.
If we don’t bring in an attitude change towards sex, the number of people with HIV/AIDS will dramatically skyrocket in the next five to 10 years, no matter how many millions of kina or excessive resources we use to diminish the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
Unquestionably, if you and I can change our attitude for a better living, we can make a difference in the mist of this troublesome disease.
