Scholarship for PNG undergraduates
Lutheran Leader Program
Waldorf College established the Lutheran Leader Program for the purpose of enrolling an international student from a developing nation who may not otherwise have an opportunity for higher education. Through the Lutheran Leader Program, an international student who exhibits financial need and meets the proper requirements for the program is enrolled at Waldorf with minimal cost to the student. To be eligible for the program, the student is required to be a member of the Lutheran denomination or Lutheran-related ministry.
The Lutheran Leader Program provides a Lutheran Leader Scholarship to a highly qualified student. The scholarship recipient is chosen based on academic records, personal recommendations, English skills, and the potential to serve while enrolled at Waldorf College. Preference is given to those students interested in majoring in one of Waldorf’s Bachelor Degree programs - Business, Biology, Communications, Creative Writing, Elementary Education (K-6), Secondary Education, Computer Information Systems (CIS), English, Foundations of Education, History, Humanities, Psychology, Music, Music Education, Theatre Arts, and Wellness. A dual degree (Physical Science/Chemical Engineering) with Iowa State University is also available.
The Lutheran Leader Scholarship is a full-tuition scholarship. However, if selected for one of these scholarships, a student will need a sponsor who will formally commit to provide $4,000* per semester ($8,000* per year) to the college toward room, board, health insurance, and some fees while the student attends. This sponsor must be secured by the student before the student can attend. It should be stated that having a sponsor does not guarantee selection for the scholarship. The scholarship winner is responsible for payment of books, school supplies, medical expenses not covered by insurance, and travel to and from the United States, along with daily living expenses. The scholarship winner will have the opportunity to work on-campus to help them meet some of the above living expenditures.
The student selected for the Lutheran Leader Program is expected to be involved in the campus ministry program, participate in the leadership development activities, and follow program guidelines. Supervision of these programs is with the Campus Pastor. Students in the program are encouraged to complete their undergraduate education at Waldorf College. If a Lutheran Leader wishes to transfer to another institution to complete their bachelor program, it is their sole responsibility to secure admission, scholarships, and/or sponsorship.
The Lutheran Leader Program is extremely competitive, and only the most qualified candidates are considered. Scholarship recipients generally exhibit excellent academic ability, outstanding school/community leadership skills and participation, and proven commitment and involvement in the Lutheran Church. Candidates are required to show proof of their English skills by passing the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a minimum score of 550 paper-based, 213 computer-based, or 79 internet-based.
To be considered for the Lutheran Leader Scholarship, students must first gain admission to Waldorf College.
