Governor repair our roads

Governor, I am writing this letter to express and raise my concerns which are vital.I’d like to take this time to congratulate you on the initiative that you came up with by seeking K5.2 million from the AusAID TSSP funds to upgrade the 6 km section of the road from Vanimo to Aitape coasts through to Wewak.

You said that “the road would bring many benefits to the province and the provincial administration (P/Courier: Fri, Feb 20, – p.12). This section of the road is one sided. How can the minority in Vanimo and Aitape help develop the province? The people of Wewak in East Sepik Province will develop their province using their sea port, airport, road networks and other infrastructures that they have.

Deteriorating roads and bridges as shown above are some of the common problem in all parts of Papua New Guinea

As a concerned citizen of Lumi who has lived there since my childhood, I have not seen many changes in the name of development in Lumi. If you were able to secure such funding for our section of the road from Karuka (Piyom) to Lumi government station, then your people would greatly appreciate your effort and lift you up. However, you have concentrated on other areas.

The people of Lumi hope and trust in you. Who else are we going to place our trust and hope in and call him or her as “trupela man or meri”? Governor, please think of your people in Lumi.

*** I wonder where all the boasted aid money from AUSAID and others gone over the years. Even more worse, I wonder what the government of Papua New Guinea been doing for the last thirty-four years. It's appropriate for the government to spend money on where it's mouth is.

Like what Sir Paulus Matane did last week, government ministers and backbenchers should get out of their seats and go to some of these villages and see the conditions of our roads and bridges.
