Papua New Guinea will slowly but gradually get out of it's social and political issues when right and capable leaders lead at the forefront

Below is a response I gave to curious friends of Papua New Guinea worldwide who wanted to know what is really happening in Papua New Guinea as far as politics, government, people, and social issues are concerned. Thanks for your interest in what's happening in Papua New Guinea. You might have read the papers about the Somare -Temu governmet's corrupt practices scandalous deals.

Therefore, people of Papua New Guinea are tired of the Somare -Temu government to cling onto power by doing whatever it takes and that adds frustrations among the people. The reason being that is that basic goods and services are not delivered and almost non existent of infrastructure developments throughout the country so you see the scenario here. The people of Papua New Guinea are fed up with lip-service year in and year out during campaign rallies - a typical Papua New Guinea politician's way of luring votes from illiterate votes across the country.

Those in the opposition are the same people who have been in the govt one way or the other and have done nothing to address these issues. All they want to do is to extend their empires at the expenses of the ordinary citizens of Papua New Guinea where eight-five percent of the population still live in rural areas.

There is nobody to have the guts to speak up against these corrupt practices by students, Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Papua New Guinea's elite, church leaders/groups, women's groups, etc...because or retribution because the government will do whatever it takes (to even extremes....ie, shoot to kill using police force, etc.... to calm such tensions when people rebel against their govt. That has been the case on several occasions when several university students and couple civilians were killed during several confrontations with the govt.

My point is, we need new people in the government who have the heart for Papua New Guinea and who can deliver goods and services to people in the villages. Above all, people who can put other people's desires above theirs and say NO TO CORRUPT PRACTICES as well as look after offices they represent instead of misusing them.

This will ultimately happen when the people in the villages are educated adequately on the importance of their votes and how it will have an impact on the country when they elect corrupt leaders. As we speak, this information is lacking in these rural areas and more awareness is needed to get these people to vote carefully come 2012 or at any Papua New Guinea election.

Too lengthy issues...and at some point complicated...in a country where culture is complex with 800 plus languages but we will gradually meet the desired goals for prosperity if visionary and capable leaders are at the forefront to lead the sheep.

Dr. Kristoffa Ninkama from Wikauma South Chimbu - a strong critic of the government share his sentiments on why the Somare -Temu government adjourned parliament sitting to November later this year.

Your column of Friday the 31st July titled: “ PM: ADJOURNMENT NOT ILLEGAL” cannot go unchallenged. Micahel Somare has been in politics continuously for over forty years and yet he has failed miserably to bring basic government services to the rural remote parts of PNG where the majority of the population are concentrated. The roads, bridges, aid posts, schools, transport, airstrips have systematically fallen apart.

The education system is of substandard value as revealed by his son Arther Somare who has recently admitted buying a house in Cairns to educate his children at the expense of the children of his voters of Angoram. The hospitals and health centers do not have basic anti-bio tics, staff and equipment for the sick.

Parliamentarians are jetting off to Australia and Asia for their medical needs leaving their voters to fend for themselves with what ever little there is.Thirty five years of independence and we are farring worse than a “Third wold country”. We are still relying largely on foreign aid, donations in kind and missions to service our infra-structure development programs, which should be the primary responsibly of any sovereign government.

Many government departments need new fleet of vehicles. As the above picture shows, the Papua New Guinea Royal Constabulary (PNGRC) needs vehicles urgently in the major centers throughout Papua New Guinea

There are very serious issues, which test the very foundation of a democracy such as the POSF, Investment Promotion Authority, MVIL, the Taiwanese multi-million kina money for recognition swindle, which are still outstanding. These matters require a strong, honest, decent, transparent and christian political leader to separate the functions of politics from that of the judiciary and the law in enabling the due process complete with out any interference.

Sadly, Michael Somare has proven over and over that he is not that kind of a person.From what the Post Courier has reported, it is evidently clear that Michael Somare is “A DESPERATE OLD MAN”. He and a handful of his “kitchen cabinet members” have orchestrated the hijacking of parliament through the Speaker who has demonstrated extreme ignorance of the democratic processes of parliamentary proceedings.

These are very serious signs of a very desperate government who would resort to anything to hold onto power. It is very obvious the gains those in the government are making. But are they also trying to hide somethings as well by clinging onto government? One wonders. Papua New Guinean’s are truly and honestly fed up with the Somare and Temu led government. Yes Dr. Temu, I am fed up with you.

You as a government is not transparent.. You have not brought any developments to rural Papua New Guinea. Your behaviours and actions thus far has been that of blatant disregard of democratic institutions throughout this nation. You leave many questions in the minds of the decent majority.

At the end of the day each and everyone of you will be held accountable one way or another. Believe me you will be held accountable.God will save Papua New Guinea but I don’t know about you lots.
